Our Do-It-Yourself migration option can be used to import a list of Clients and Contacts quickly and easily into your Nookal account.

This page is part of our Moving to Nookal guide – if you have just discovered this page, please consider starting from the beginning.

📦 Some Assembly Required

This is an easy process, but let’s quickly make sure we’re both starting on the same page:

  • You will need a CSV (Comma-Separated Values) file containing the Client (or Contact) details you wish to migrate into your Nookal account.
  • A CSV file can typically be created and edited with most popular spreadsheeting software – such as Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, etc.
  • You must not have your Clients and Contacts details in the same CSV file. They must each be within their own file – e.g: “clients.csv” and “contacts.csv”.

🏦 Columns – the pillars of your data…

Let’s take a look at the columns your CSV file may contain:

Select your Data Type:

Your column headers don’t have to match our examples. Although you may find it helpful.

And when saving your CSV file, we recommend the following options:

  • Character Set: Unicode (UTF-8)
  • Field Delimiter: Comma (,)
  • Text/String Delimiter: Double-quote (“)
  • Save Cell Content as Shown: Yes

🛠️ Let’s Do It (Yourself)!

Time for that beautiful CSV to shine…

  1. Login to your Nookal account.
  2. Navigate to the Manage > Data > Import page.
  3. Select the Type of data you’re migrating.
  4. Choose the CSV File from your computer.
  5. Click the Upload button.
  6. Select the Location to connect the data to.
  7. Tell us if the CSV contains a Header row or not – it usually does…
  8. ⚠️ Stop! It’s important to triple-check this next step:
    • Tell us if you want to Delete Data (i.e. all existing Clients or Contacts) – this is unrecoverable, and should only be used if you want to remove all previously added Client or Contact records.

🗺️ Mapping Your Data

When you’re happy with all of the options above, let’s map that CSV…

For each Nookal field:

  1. Make sure the according column from your CSV file is selected.
  2. Make sure the Sample Data fields are showing your data correctly – check your Date formats specifically…

🚀 Ready to Launch!

Once you’ve mapped your CSV – click the Add Data button.

  • Your request will be added to our queue to be processed.
  • Our queue can take up to an hour (usually sooner) to be completed, the time required will depend on the size of your CSV file.
  • The Status of the request will be updated once processing has been completed.

🚨 Don’t forget…

It is absolutely critical that you make time to check your data after we have processed it and before you use your account operationally.

Once you start using your account, the ability to correct any issues with your data becomes significantly difficult – if not impossible.

Check out our guide on how to Check Your Data – it’s quick, easy, and you won’t regret it.
